Lafayette Hill (Israël) - Om de Israëlische Onafhankelijkheids Dag te vieren werd in Lafayette Hil een speciale activiteit gehouden. Op vrijdagavond konden kinderen meebouwen aan een replica van de Oude Stad Jeruzalem in de bekende bouwblokjes.

Architect Stephen Schwartz onderwijst de geschiedenis van Jeruzalem aan synagoge bezoekers, door hen een replica van de Oude Stad te laten bouwen, gebruik makend van 60.000 LEGO stenen:

"k heb een tekening van Jeruzalem gemaakt van 122 m2. Het is op vinyl geprint. We hebben het op de grond vast getaped en er werken nu tussen de 60 en 150 mensen aan."

Hij zegt dat het project goed bij het Israëlische Onafhankelijkheids Dag programma past:

"We praten over wat er gebeurde tijdens de Oorlog om Onafhankelijkheid in 1948, toen verloren de Israeli de controle over de Oude Stad Jeruzalem. En pas na de oorlog van 1967, de Zes Daagse Oorlog, herwonnen ze de controle."

Lafayette Hill (Israël) - To mark Israeli Independence Day, Congregation Or Ami in Lafayette Hill, Pa. was holding a special program  on Friday evening in which they replicate the Old City of Jerusalem in children's construction blocks.

Architect Stephen Schwartz is teaching the history of Jerusalem to synagogue attendees by having them create a replica of the Old City using 60,000 Lego blocks:

"I have created a drawing of Jerusalem that is a 400-square-foot drawing.  It's printed on vinyl.  We tape that down to the floor, and then we have anywhere from 60 to 150 people working on the project at one time."

He says the project fits in well with the Israeli Independence Day program:

"We do talk about the fact that during the War of Independence, in 1948, the Israelis lost control of the Old City of Jerusalem.  And it wasn't until the war of '67, the Six Day War, that they regained control and actually opened up all the sites to the entire world."
